Atwood’s Machine Experiment

SKU: EX-5501 Categories: ,

Student experiment using changing velocity measurements to relate to Newton’s 2nd Law. This complete solution is designed for use with PASCO Capstone Software.

Available on backorder

In this classic experiment, students use a very low mass/low friction pulley to measure the changing velocity of the unbalanced mass system. Students interpret the slope of the velocity graph as acceleration. They examine the effect of the pulley’s rotational inertia and estimate the friction forces based on experimental data.

PASCO Advantage: The Super Pulley/Photogate System makes it easy for students to set up the apparatus and take data. Analysis includes accounting for friction and the rotational inertia of the pulley.

Concepts

  • Newton’s 2nd Law of Motion
  • Newton’s 2nd Law of Rotational Motion
  • Rotational Inertia
