Robo Wunderkind challenge «Code a better tomorrow»

Robo Wunderkind is once again running an interesting challenge – this time on the Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Read more about the challenge in the “Challenge Brief Introduction” section.

STE.education invites you to take part in this challenge with your Robo Wunderkind robotics kits .

Take part in promoting SDGs!

A brief introduction to the challenge

Robo Wunderkind runs a challegne to support global sustainable development goals. The Challenge aims to support these global goals and encourage the younger generation to use creativity and technology to make the world a better place for all.

NB! The challenge is in English!

Global saving development goals

2015 the global sustainable development goals and action plan were adopted in the autumn. They aim to eradicate poverty everywhere and to ensure dignity and a good quality of life for all.

Read more about global sustainable development goals on the State Chancellery’s website here .

Global goals to focus on in this challenge

By participating in this challenge, you will be participating in the following global goals:

  1. Clean water and sanitation (6 goals, find out more here )
  2. Sustainable energy (7 goals, find out more here )
  3. Action against climate change (13 objectives, see here )

Each point is one theme of the challenge project.

Example of project 1 theme – clean water and sanitation

All living things need water, some of them may live in salt water, but most animals, including us humans, need fresh water.

People have made some progress in increasing the availability of clean drinking water and sanitation. Billions of people, mostly in rural areas, do not have this opportunity. How to find a solution to this problem through robotics and technology?

The challenge: There are water inequalities that should be addressed through technology.

Project idea: Smart irrigation and water use controller.

Project description: Even if we all know that we should be very careful about using water, sometimes we leave the water running or use too much water to irrigate the plants. Many farmers are fighting this problem by cultivating props and plants. Robotic technologies can improve the water efficiency of irrigation systems by enabling us to create an efficient water plan that keeps plants healthy and can be remotely controlled by smart devices.

Example of project 2 theme – sustainable energy

As the number of people living on planet Earth grows, so does the demand for energy. New clean and renewable energy sources should be used to supply energy to all people around the world and to continue to be sustainable in the treatment of our planet. How to find a solution to this problem through robotics and technology?

The challenge: We need to use affordable, clean and renewable energy sources.

Project idea: Robot charging station

Project description: It is important to know what kind of energy we use on a daily basis. Is this energy renewable or not? What sustainable energy sources can we use in our lives to charge devices?
Cars and transport are one of the largest consumers of energy we use on a daily basis. Is it possible to change them in a sustainable way? Today, we can find electric cars and their charging stations in many cities. How do these charging stations work?

Project 3 thematic example – measures to combat climate change

Challenge: Take care of your planet.

Project idea: Smart city lighting

Project description: We are still talking about energy consumption here. Look around the street – how many lights do you see? Do we constantly need the luminaire to work? Does it depend on the time of day, the season, the environment? Can we show robots when to use lights and when to turn them off?

Conditions for participation in the challenge

All kindergarten children aged 3-6 and basic school students in grades 1-6 can take part in the challenge.

Several projects can be submitted from one school or kindergarten, it is not necessary to have only one child or group and one project. It is also not forbidden to submit 3 projects for each LNG theme.

The project must be submitted to the Robo Wunderkind website as a short video with the following English subtitles:

  1. Problem defined.
  2. The solution to the problem.
  3. Solution: Use photos or videos to showcase your progress.
  4. Code: Don’t forget to show and explain your code.

Use craft materials to improve your robot and help the judges see what you have imagined.
